AARP Urges Congress To Reject Legislation That Could Leave Hundreds Of Thousands Without Health Coverage

AARP today voiced its opposition to legislation that would eliminate the Medicaid Maintenance-of-Effort (MOE) requirements included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that is being considered in the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee.

The legislation, H.R.1683, could lead to the loss of vital protections for health care access for older Americans, persons with disabilities, and children, effectively allowing states to cut eligibility for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Read more…

NFL Players Looking for Better Health Care

The long awaited NFL lock-out is upon up and players are toughing it out without health insurance.  Many players chose to get coverage through COBRA while negotiations are under way, but there are players taking a risk with no insurance at this time.  This is unfortunately considering one of the main factors the players are fighting for is a significant improvement in health care post-football and a health care reimbursement account.

Most Americans agree that all children need to have access to excellent health care without devastating struggling families.  The government has helped tremendously with this over the years.  Health insurance isn’t cheap, especially for those with pre-existing conditions, but a lot has been done to ensure children are protected.

The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a government sponsored program financed at the state and federal level to expand health care to uninsured children in low income families not eligible for Medicaid.  Most children covered by CHIP are enrolled in managed care health plans that contract with states to offer coverage.

Many would agree this plan is successful as it helps our innocent children who deserve quality health care.  CHIP

Affordable Care Act Improving Health Coverage And Lowering Costs For Californians

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) received a letter from the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), which provides health benefits to 1.6 million workers, retirees, and their families, outlining the ways the Affordable Care Act is helping improve coverage and lower costs for Californians.

“The efforts by CalPERS to act on the important programs and provisions of the Affordable Care Act shows that this new law is bringing real benefits to consumers,” said Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “More Californians now have the security of health insurance – and lower health care costs for better benefits.”
